Former South Carolina G Sindarius Thornwell has been arrested on a pair of second-degree charges of domestic violence and of unlawful conduct toward a child. That comes this morning per WIS10 News.

The sheriff’s department in Richland County said Thornwell was brought in on Tuesday. He was arrested on those charges that came from an incident last month on August 12th.

“RCSD said the charges are linked to an incident on Aug. 12 on Glenn Village Road,” they wrote today at WIS News 10. “The victim reportedly told deputies that Thornwell assaulted her while she was holding a child after an argument. The victim also claimed Thornwell threw a cup of water at them and struck them in the back of the head. According to deputies, Thornwell denied hitting the victim but did admit to throwing a cup of water at them.”

“Records show Thornwell was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center after his arrest and is awaiting a bond hearing,” they added, with that hearing since set for this afternoon.

Thornell starred for South Carolina from 2013-2017, averaging 14.7 points (39.2% FG, 33.9% 3PT on 1.4 makes), 5.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in 132 starts for the Gamecocks. That includes his senior season where Thornwell, who won SEC Player of the Year, posted 21.4 points (44.4% FG, 39.2% 3PT on 1.9 makes), 7.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. He also capped that collegiate career off by leading South Carolina to their lone appearance in the Final Four in 2017.

From there, Thornwell would be the No. 48 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, as he’d play four seasons in the association with the Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Orlando Magic. He has also spent time in the G-League and playing overseas in Europe, Turkey, and most recently last season in China.
