Following South Carolina‘s disappointing 28-14 loss to rival Clemson Saturday afternoon, Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers addressed his future.

Sellers, who has two years of college eligibility remaining, could return or enter the NFL Draft as a redshirt sophomore. Saturday afternoon, he passed for 381 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in the 10-point loss.

“I mean, when the decision comes to make a decision, when time comes to make a decision, I’ll make the decision that works best for me,” Sellers said.

The Florence, SC native entered the year as a preseason Heisman Trophy favorite. As a redshirt freshman last season, Sellers emerged as one of the brightest young stars in the sport. He passed for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns for a Carolina team that fell just shy of a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Sellers was expected to make the leap to being one of the best quarterbacks in the country, but that just hasn’t been the case. In 12 games, he passed for 2,437 yards, 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He recorded a 300-plus yard passing game in just one Carolina’s eight SEC games (1-7), and recorded just two on the season (Missouri and Clemson).

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer touched on the future of his team as a whole following the Gamecocks’ disastrous blown 31-30 loss to Texas A&M last Saturday.

“I’d not be doing my job as a head coach if I wasn’t having conversations with players throughout the season in regards to their futures,” Beamer said. “We’ve got guys that have NFL decisions to make. I don’t want to speak for everyone, there’ll be a time for all that, but I’ll say this though, there’s a lot of guys on this team that love being a Gamecock, and there’s a lot of guys on this team and in this program that hurt like hell right now about what we’re going through, but there’s a lot of guys that have great grit and resolve to get this right and understand how close we are to to being where we want to be.”

Settling at 4-8 on the year, it marks Shane Beamer‘s worst season in his five years with the program. Returning Sellers next season would be key if Carolina plans on making a run to the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history.
