There are a handful of quarterbacks around the country getting extraordinary amounts of attention going into the 2025 season. That has, at times, allowed South Carolina Gamecocks star LaNorris Sellers to almost go under the radar. Still, there are some growing expectations on his shoulders.

One person who has recently taken note of LaNorris Sellers is ESPN’s Louis Riddick. On Get Up Wednesday morning, he praised Sellers, noting how he blends athleticism with playing the quarterback position.

“LaNorris Sellers now,” Louis Riddick said. “I’m just telling you, look out for this dude. He can run. He has got a cannon. They have got a good program down there. LaNorris Sellers, LaNorris Sellers. He is everything that you’re looking for. Just look at some of this. Look how big this kid is. Look how fast and elusive he is.”

Louis Riddick is far from the only one to take notice of LaNorris Sellers. The standout quarterback was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watchlist. ESPN, for its part, ranked him as the 19th-best player in all of college football going into the 2025 season. He’d even make Bruce Feldman’s freaks list. That was largely for his blend of size and speed at the quarterback position.

2024 was the first season Sellers was the primary quarterback for South Carolina. In 12 games, he’d complete 65.6 percent of his passes for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns to only seven interceptions. He also rushed for 674 yards and seven touchdowns.

Unsurprisingly, with Sellers eligible to declare for the NFL Draft after this upcoming season, he’s begun to draw attention from the next level. In his latest mock draft, ESPN’s Field Yates even has him going second overall to the New York Jets. For now, though, Sellers is focused on South Carolina. In particular, he’s focused on growing as a leader for the Gamecocks.

“[The coaches] pushed it on me more last year,” Sellers said at SEC Media Days. “This year, they’re more chill about it, and it’s something that I’ve taken on from the last two years of being in the system.”

South Carolina opens the 2025 college football season on August 31st against the Virginia Tech Hokies. They’ll have a couple of weeks after that to prepare for SEC play and the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Gamecocks are going to need LaNorris Sellers to hit the ground running in that game. After all, this is a team with College Football Playoff aspirations.
