Rahsul Faison waiver update: Shane Beamer offers latest update on South Carolina RB's application

South Carolina transfer RB Rahsul Faison is still waiting on an answer from the NCAA on whether he’s eligible to play college football in 2025. With just over four weeks until the first Saturday of the season — his status as a Gamecock is still in the air.
Head coach Shane Beamer said there is still no update on where his eligibility lies as of Monday’s media. However, he’s been in the Gamecocks’ facility with the team as though he’ll be playing in a month’s time.
“I wish I had a different answer for you,” Beamer told reporters. “He texted me earlier, and I called him back. … I was on the phone with some people yesterday, trying to get some things done from that standpoint. I’ve got a lot of respect for Charlie Baker, who heads up the NCAA, and (I’m) confident that they will do the right thing when that time is.”
Faison began his college career at Snow College for the 2021 season. He didn’t play until 2022 and ended up transferring to Utah State ahead of the 2023 season, where he stayed for two years. Faison rushed for 1,109 yards on 5.6 yards per attempt with eight touchdowns at Utah State in 2024.
Players are scheduled to report on South Carolina’s preseason camp beginning on Thursday, July 31. But will Faison be taking the field with his teammates?

“He asked me the same question today,” Beamer said. “And I told him, yeah. So until somebody tells me otherwise — he’s practicing.”
If he’s denied an extra season of eligibility, Faison told On3’s Pete Nakos that he’d like to join a team during for their training camp and an undrafted free agent or as a part of the NFL’s supplemental draft. However, the NFL did not hold a supplemental draft this year and training camp in the NFL is already underway. Meanwhile, Faison has been left waiting for an answer about his football future.
For now, it appears that there’s no update to be made for Faison. Beamer will take to the podium again to address the media when camp begins on July 31, which will be the next time Beamer will have the chance to address the situation again.
“I’m just training if I have to be on an NFL roster in a month, then I’m going to be ready,” Faison told Nakos. “If I’m playing college football, I’ll be ready. Just trying to stay in shape.”
