Shane Beamer pressed on if he thinks LaNorris Sellers will return to South Carolina

Following South Carolina‘s 28-14 loss to rival Clemson, questions turned to the future of the program. Will LaNorris Sellers remain around for the 2026 season or will he look to head elsewhere?

The quarterback was the center of the offense this season, one of the most talented players on the roster. But he probably didn’t have quite the year he had hoped for.

Could that lead LaNorris Sellers to seek a transfer elsewhere? Or will he stick it out and hope things revert more toward the year he had as a freshman in 2024?

“Yeah, I mean you’ve got to ask LaNorris that,” coach Shane Beamer said. “I’m focused on today’s game. I’m not going to dissect and give you an analysis of what the ’26 roster is going to look like.”

LaNorris Sellers finished his season with 2,056 passing yards and 11 touchdowns, against six interceptions. He also ran for 268 yards and five scores, offering some dual-threat ability.

For his part, Sellers was mum on a potential decision. He spoke to that after the game.

“I mean, when the decision comes to make a decision, when time comes to make a decision, I’ll make the decision that works best for me,” Sellers said.

South Carolina’s potential if LaNorris Sellers returns is undeniable, though. But whether he’ll see that out remains to be seen.

The Gamecocks dumped offensive coordinator Mike Shula late in the season and will have a change in direction as a result. Will Sellers like the new hire?

Regardless, Beamer thinks the fact that South Carolina, which finished 4-8, was in so many close games will help. That could stir a hunger in the players like LaNorris Sellers.

“I do know this, there’s a lot of guys in that locker room that are hurt and don’t want to feel this feeling again,” Beamer said. “And also understand how freaking close we are to being where we want to be. We’re sitting here at this time last year feeling a whole lot different after this game in the middle of a six-game winning streak and thinking we were going to the College Football Playoff.

“We’re not there right now, but there’s a very motivated group of guys in that locker room that are excited about what’s next, I do know that. Again, that’s a question for LaNorris.”
