South Carolina coach Shane Beamer once again shot down rumors that he is a candidate to take the Virginia Tech job. Beamer was asked Sunday to address reports from CBS Sports that stated he had not yet closed the door on a potential offer from the Hokies amid a 3-4 start to this season for the Gamecocks.

Beamer also has a personal connection as his father, Frank, was the head coach at Virginia Tech for 29 seasons from 1987-2015. However, the younger Beamer once again reaffirmed his commitment to South Carolina, calling it his “dream job.”

“I think I’ve said enough about that,” Beamer said. “One, I haven’t talked to Brad Crawford in like two years, and not discrediting Brad’s sources, but I have no idea where that story came from. I have conveyed publicly many times how much I want to be here. And I respect the question, I understand you asking it, and I’m not mad.

“I’ve conveyed many times how much I want to be here. This is my dream job. I said that when I came here. Nothing has changed. I am pissed off at the way we are performing right now, and it’s not acceptable.”

In addition to citing sources who claimed Beamer had not closed the door on Virginia Tech, the article from CBS Sports also noted the change in athletic director since he was hired in 2021. Jeremiah Donati was named the Gamecocks new AD this past December.

Even so, Beamer stated that he feels “extremely supported by Donati. The coach is 32-26 and in the middle of Year 5 in Columbia, having directed the Gamecocks to a bowl game in each of the previous four years.

He understands that the current level of play has to be better, but reassured Gamecocks fans that he isn’t thinking of jumping ship. South Carolina is where he wants to be and he is committed to turning this season around.

“I came here to win a championship, and right now we’re not getting it done, and my focus right now is on getting it fixed,” Beamer said. “Going back to last year, we were two points away from being in the College Football Playoff, and I am working my rear end off to get us back to where we’re in that mix and playoff talk.

“And that’s the same thing I told our football team today, that I guess the gist of that article was that would be a parachute or something for me to get out of here and have a soft landing spot. Well, I’m not happy with where we are right now, and I’m determined to get it fixed. We’re in a storm right now that I’m going to get us out of.”
