The fans in Columbia have begun to boo their Gamecocks following South Carolina‘s third-straight stalled drive in the first half. Their first two drives during the second quarter resulted in three-and-outs, which has resulted in fans calling for offensive coordinator Mike Shula’s job.

South Carolina trailed Oklahoma 14-0 at the time, and were forced to punt after being forced behind the sticks from deep in its own territory. Meanwhile, the Sooners would take advantage by scoring touchdowns on two of its first three drives.

Coming into the matchup, the Shula and the Gamecocks were tied for last in the SEC in points per game (22.3) with Florida, as well as last in the conference in yards per game (310). This comes during a season in which the Gamecocks were ranked as high as No. 10 this season before beginning conference play.

The Gamecocks would go on to finish the first half with less than 100 yards of total offense while the Sooners have more than doubled that. QB LaNorris Sellers completed 10 of his 11 passing attempts on the afternoon, throwing for 70 yards and an interception during the first two quarters.

South Carolina logged 20 rushing attempts for 39 total yards during the first half. RB Rashul Faison was the team’s leading rusher with six attempts for 44 yards. Matt Fuller and Oscar Adaway III combined for negative five yards on five attempts, bringing the team total down to below Faison’s total.

Nyck Harbor was responsible for the lone touchdown of the first half for South Carolina. He finished the first half with three receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown.

One of the more concerning pieces of the first half didn’t have anything to do with the Gamecocks’ offensive unit. Sophomore pass rusher Dylan Stewart was ruled out of the game in the second quarter with a hip flexor injury.

He attempted to return after he was injured on the opening drive of the game despite being taken to the locker room. Stewart emerged from the locker room and appeared ready to play. He returned to the game and it wasn’t long before he was limping off the field again. His pads were taken off and his day was over before the first half was over.

South Carolina will hope to have him back soon. Stewart’s status will be evaluated ahead of next week’s matchup against Alabama.
