South Carolina has fired offensive coordinator Mike Shula, per CBS Sports. The move comes amid the Gamecocks 3-6 start to the season.

Shula was the quarterbacks coach for South Carolina in addition to being the offensive coordinator. He was promoted to the positions after being hired as a senior offensive assistant for the Gamecocks in 2024.

The Gamecocks rank last in the SEC in both yards per game (294.1) and points per game (19.7) through 10 weeks. They’re the only team in the SEC that currently averages less than 300 yards per game and 20 points per game.

Most recently, South Carolina lost to No. 7 Ole Miss 30-14 on the road. Shula’s offense was out-gained 417-230 during the contest and was held to 50 yards rushing — good for 1.6 yards per carry to go along with three turnovers.

The loss is the fourth in a row for South Carolina under head coach Shane Beamer in his fifth year leading the program. The Gamecocks have been to a bowl game in three of Beamer’s first four seasons, and will have to win out to reach the postseason in 2025.

This comes off the heels of South Carolina’s best season under Beamer in 2024. The Gamecocks won nine games and were invited to the Citrus Bowl as a result of their effort. In turn, South Carolina was ranked No. 13 in the AP Poll this preseason and was ranked as high as No. 10 this season after a 2-0 start.

South Carolina is 1-6 ever since, with their only win being against Kentucky in September during that stretch. In that time, South Carolina ranks second-to-last in the current SEC standings ahead of Arkansas. The Razorbacks are still searching for its first SEC win of the season heading into the final weeks of the regular season.

The Gamecocks will round out its season on the road against Texas A&M — the only undefeated team left in the SEC — as well as Coastal Carolina and Clemson. Any loss would keep South Carolina out of bowl eligibility for the second time in three seasons.

South Carolina will look to regroup while on its bye during Week 11. When they return, it’ll be in College Station against the undefeated Aggies on Nov. 15. Kickoff and television designations are still TBA.
