LOOK: Darius Rucker reacts to South Carolina’s Final Four win

Once again, the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team is heading back to the national championship after a Final Four win on Friday night. Defeating the Louisville Cardinals in Minneapolis, head coach Dawn Staley and her team got support from country music artist Darius Rucker on Twitter after the game.
Rucker, a South Carolina graduate, reacted to the result, proving to be ecstatic. He tweeted at the official Twitter account and said Staley was the Coach of the Year. There was even a tease from Rucker on a potential celebration if they are able to cap the NCAA Tournament run off with a win in the national championship.
“Yeeeessssssss!!!!! Let’s go @GamecockWBB and @dawnstaley !! We got POY and COY. One more win and unsay we have a party on the Horseshoe. Free show for the Natty. What say u Gamecocks?!?!?!?!”
You can see the full tweet below.
When Rucker says the National Player of the Year, he is referencing Aliyah Boston, who came up huge against Louisville. The South Carolina forward ended the night with a double-double, scoring 23 points and having 18 rebounds. She led both teams in scoring as the Gamecocks pulled out a 72-59 win. Four other Gamecocks were in double figures.

South Carolina will now be waiting for their next opponent. The Connecticut Huskies and Stanford Cardinals are the second game of the night, hoping to keep their national championship hopes alive. The Gamecocks already have wins over both programs during the regular season.
As for Rucker, he attended South Carolina and has been a fan ever since. Meeting members of his eventual band, Hootie & the Blowfish, being a musician was always Rucker’s dream growing up in Charleston, South Carolina. Now, he has the opportunity to root on his alma mater as they push for the second national championship in program history.
