Shane Beamer praises Spencer Rattler, discusses Dad on social media

There will be plenty of talent entering the SEC this upcoming seaosn, with former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Spencer Rattler being one of the top names. Playing for South Carolina this season, Rattler will be looking to return to the form that had him atop Heisman Trophy watch boards at the beginning of the 2021 season.
During a press conference on Monday, head coach Shane Beamer was asked about Spencer Rattler and how he was fitting in with the South Carolina program. He was also asked about Rattler’s dad being “good and bad” on social media — recently getting into it with ESPN’s Matt Barrie regarding reports surrounding his son and Arizona State.
“Good and bad, those are your words,” Beamer said. “I don’t know what he’s doing on social media but I don’t think it’s much of anything. I think his Dad is a hell of a person and I love his Dad. He’s a great family. Spencer is a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very grounded and a great young man. Looking forward to you guys getting to know him. That’s what I know about him and he’s done a great job of coming into this program and immersing himself within the team and being a great teammate.”
Beamer was once again asked about Rattler’s father and shut down that he should be discussing parents and their social media activity.
“We’re asking about dads of players?,” Beamer said. “I mean come on man. I mean, I got 119 dads and moms. Are we going to comment on what all of them are putting on social media?”

Focusing back on the football field, Rattler will be taking over for an offense that struggled at quarterback last season. Four different players threw at least 10 passes, with Luke Doty leading the team with 975 passing yards and added five touchdowns and three interceptions.
Rattler, being a former five-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus, will instantly come in as the starter and elevate Shane Beamer’s offense. Under Lincoln Riley in Norman, Rattler threw for 4,595 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions over a three-year stretch. Although he was benched for Caleb Williams during the middle of the season, there is still plenty of potential South Carolina will be looking to unleash this season.
We will get the first look of Rattler in a South Carolina jersey on Sept. 3, when they host Georgia State. An early test will come in the following two weeks, with Arkansas and Georgia on the schedule.
