Stanford fans are in for a treat ahead of one of the biggest games of the season. The Cardinal announced that they’ll be giving away a “Captain Andrew Luck bobblehead, modeled after the popular parody Twitter account that became a fan-favorite during the former quarterback’s playing days in the NFL.

Naturally, Stanford rolled out the news with a humorous video featuring Luck himself, now serving as the program’s general manager. The former Heisman finalist has embraced his quirky off-field persona, and the announcement clip quickly made the rounds online as one of the more creative promotions in college football this fall.

The giveaway will take place on Nov. 29, when Stanford hosts Notre Dame. Fans who make their way to Stanford Stadium will have a chance to snag the limited-edition collectible, a nod to both Luck’s legendary career on with the Cardinal and his playful alter ego that once captivated the sport.

The fun is part of a broader effort by Luck to re-engage the fan base and elevate Stanford football as he transitions into his leadership role with the program. Since stepping into his new position, Luck has been front and center in trying to ensure the Cardinal can compete at the highest level, particularly in an era where the balance between tradition and modern realities like NIL is still being sorted out.

He discussed those challenges recently with Eli Manning on Eli’s Places, noting how much the game has evolved since his own playing career: “Man, there’s been so much change. So much change,” Luck told Manning. “I didn’t play college football too long ago, you didn’t play college football too long ago. But that was a different era. A totally different era.

“Deeply on principle, I do hold that, gosh, too much money has been made around college football for the players that are on field, the product, to not get a piece of the pie. We have to. Look, we anticipate that there continue to be some rule changes and tweaks as we march toward sort of a homeostasis, whatever that is.

“For us, we’re embracing it. We’re out there. We know we need to be competitive. We need to win, we need to build a championship program, and NIL’s absolutely part of it. I think we can hold on to all of what makes college football special and make sure that the finances – the money, the NIL – occupies the right space.”

Between bobblehead giveaways and candid insights, Luck remains a central figure in Stanford’s efforts to balance the future of college football with their impressive past. We’ll see if he can get the job done, as the Cardinal currently sit at 2-3 in 2025.
