Stanford coach David Esquer grabs a hot dog during weather delay at College World Series

Weather delays and summer baseball go hand in hand and it wouldn’t be a true College World Series without at least one stoppage in play in Omaha. And Stanford coach David Esquer decided to enjoy a delay in style.
The Cardinal manager pulled up inside the concourse at Charles Schwab Field and dropped by a concession stand to order up a hot dog during the delay.
Still in full baseball attire, he put in his order and went to work.
And here’s the kicker: A smiling Esquer noted the hot dog was the best one he’s had at any stadium this year. According to ESPN, too, the only condiment they had available was ranch, so Esquer loaded it up.
Esquer deserves something to eat following the first six innings in play at The Chuck, too. His Stanford squad led a Wake Forest team that has been on an absolute tear in the postseason 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning.
How good has Wake Forest been in the postseason?
The Demon Deacons’ +59 run differential in the NCAA Tournament going into Omaha was the most in history, with Wake Forest obliterating everyone in its path en route to the College World Series.
Stanford hasn’t seemed to notice so far.
So with Esquer finishing up his hot dog during the break, expect the Cardinal to be ready when the teams start up play again at 5:45 p.m. ET. Stanford will have a runner runner on second base with two outs when play resumes.
To this point, Stanford has been the better team, but the Cardinal haven’t been able to inflict more damage despite some good opportunities.

“I like that we put runners in scoring position often, we just haven’t got that big hit yet,” Esquer said during an in-game interview. “We’ve had a couple chances, a couple body blows if we could get to them, get a hit there. But just staying consistent and constant, like just trying to keep pushing forward and the relentlessness will help us.”
How the opening game between the two teams at the College World Series will be of interest to plenty of teams competing in Omaha.
Few will want to face Wake Forest and their big bats, though Stanford is proving no slouch of its own.
Wake Forest has also proven that it can take the ball deep at The Chuck, with slugger Brock Wilken knocking a home run out to left field in the bottom of the second inning for the team’s only run.
In any case, the action is set to resume at the College World Series shortly, so be sure to finish those rain delay hot dogs and buckle up.
