Fran Brown is proving to be an incredible head coach in college football. His Syracuse team just waltzed into Clemson and they might’ve put the final dagger in the heart of the Tigers’ 2025 season in Week 4.

That has Urban Meyer impressed. He believes bigger and better things are ahead for Brown, and there’s no limit to his ceiling moving forward in his coaching career.

“I think Fran Brown’s the hottest coach in college sports,” Meyer stated, via The Triple Option. “The way he handles his business—he’s all in on these players. A big part of the college world is making sure guys are set up for life after sport, and that’s something we emphasized at Ohio State and Florida. I was watching what he was doing, and he’s fully committed.

“He’s rugged, he’s tough. He says some things where you’re like, ‘Damn, he really said that.’ And then the wind sprints after (the game)—he’s doing his own thing, but it’s working. I like his presentation. I like the way he looks, the way he talks. I like everything about it. If I’m an athletic director, I’m all over that. One hundred percent.”

After a 10-3 season with Syracuse last season, the Orange got off to a bumpy start in Year 2 under Brown, as they were blown out by Tennessee Week 1. Instead of folding, Syracuse has come out swinging, and that’s how they turned their season around over the past three weeks.

“We talk about Fran Brown—we just talked about the importance of culture, and he’s establishing the culture that he wants, the type of player that he wants in his program. And he has Syracuse playing at a high level because of that culture,” Mark Ingram added. “What’s not acceptable is you not giving your best and max effort—because you will run after the game. What’s not acceptable is coming in here asking for money and saying you’re going to go somewhere else. That’s not acceptable.

“He wants players who want to be here. Players who want to be great. Players who want to be great men off the field as well. So he’s established a tremendous culture, and Coach Fran is one of the top young, up-and-coming coaches in the college football world, for sure.”

It’s evident Brown has a ton of love for Syracuse, but he might not be long for the Orange. Rob Stone put it bluntly — a bigger program will come calling eventually, so they better enjoy Brown while they have him in upstate New York.

“How does it end for Fran Brown? Another job,” Stone proclaimed. “Enjoy him while you got him, Syracuse. Bigger job, enjoy him while you got him—right now.”
