Boo Carter remains indoors for individual workout as Tennessee begins outdoor practice

Tennessee defensive back Boo Carter is at fall camp for a second straight day. However, he is still doing some different work away from the team, coming out of his situation with the Volunteers.
Tennessee had its second practice on Thursday after opening up camp, which Carter was also in attendance for, on Wednesday. Adam Sparks at the Knoxville News Sentinel again noted the apparent separation of Carter from the team at points as he worked out alone once the team took practice outside this morning.
Again, Carter, although back with the team, has had a limited, modified role to this point of practice with the Vols. It’s been separate, besides the warmups for him, by all accounts coming out of Knoxville.
“Boo Carter was on the practice field with his teammates for stretching periods Wednesday morning, as the Vols started fall camp inside the Anderson Training Center,” Grant Ramey at VolQuest wrote on Wednesday. “Tennessee players were in shorts and helmets for the workout, but Carter did not wear a helmet and was not part of the practice once players went through drills with their position groups.”
Over the last week, there had been speculation about Carter’s future with the program after reporting shared he had missed several team activities leading into fall camp. That led to some confrontation, obviously so in the aftermath of what happened this past spring, but it did not end in his dismissal. Josh Heupel would go on to address that earlier this week prior to the start of camp.
Carter, a defensive back entering his sophomore season, made the SEC All-Freshman Team last year. That’s after 13 appearances for the Volunteers last fall, where he posted 38 tackles, three being for loss, along with a sack and an interception. He was also their leading punt returner with a dozen brought back for 198 yards, with the yardage being fourth-most in the SEC. That looked to be setting him up for a bigger role overall for the team this season before this all took place, coming out of the summer.

This will be a matter that’ll continue to be monitored when it comes to Tennessee. Still, while working his way back when it comes to his team, Carter is at least present, working towards his return ahead of the season.
Heupel addresses Boo Carter’s situation, status
Josh Heupel finally addressed the situation involving Boo Carter during Tuesday’s preseason press conference. He said, while he was still part of the team, that Carter would have to work do over time to reestablish himself amongst their team.
“Boo is a part of our team here,” Heupel said. “There’s some things he’s got to accomplish to get back on the field here. Don’t have a set timetable on that.”
“Our leadership council has been apart of those things, those discussions, with me and with Boo,” said Heupel. “I’m proud of what they’ve done. They care and love Boo and want him to be his best too. And, through this thing, I think Boo sees that as well.”
