Colorado transfer defensive back Colton Hood has chosen his next destination, committing to Tennessee via the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He’s played two seasons of college football, one with the Buffaloes and one with the Auburn Tigers.

Over that time, Hood has amassed 27 total tackles and two interceptions, with most of his success coming with Colorado. Now, he’ll hope to evolve into a star player in his return to the SEC.

Hood played high school football at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, GA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 383 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

More on the Tennessee Volunteers, NCAA Transfer Portal

Colton Hood’s arrival comes at the perfect time for Tennessee. Earlier in this cycle, former Vols defensive back John Slaughter committed to Colorado out of the NCAA transfer portal, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. He also visited Purdue, but chose Boulder.

Slaughter contributed six tackles and an interception for the Volunteers during his two seasons on campus. Most of his production came during his sophomore season, where he logged five of those tackles along with the interception. He’ll have two years of eligibility left.

Before college, Slaughter was a three-star recruit according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 584 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class, and the No. 54 safety.

He chose the Volunteers over the likes of Florida StateKentuckyMississippi StateOle Miss and a handful of other programs. Now, he’ll hope his time with the Buffaloes is more fruitful.
