IMG Academy (Fla.) five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate has been trending toward Tennessee is recent months, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). The Vols hosted him at the end of January for an unofficial visit and then last month for his first official visit of the year.

Not surprisingly, it coincided with the same weekend that five-star quarterback commit Nico Iamaleava was in town as well. The country’s No. 3 quarterback has been pushing hard for the duo to team up in Knoxville.

Tate didn’t have any more scheduled visits to Tennessee on the docket, but he appears to be back in town this weekend. He posted a photo of Tennessee’s baseball game on his Instagram Saturday afternoon.

In addition to Tennessee, Tate has taken an official visit to LSU and also has another scheduled with Georgia for next month. Ohio State is another major player in his recruitment, but having been on campus there multiple times, he said it’s unlikely he sets an official with the Buckeyes.

He told On3’s Chad Simmons last month that a commitment decision could come sooner rather than later.

“I am working to get it done in summer,” Tate said. “It comes down to my relationship with staff, the player development, and my trust in them. Trust is everything for me and my mom, so that is a big factor to go with the chances to play in the NFL.”

Tate did not want to rank the schools, but he said, “There is some separation with the different schools. I am higher on one or two, but there have been some changes up there.

“I am not ready to commit yet, but I am a lot closer than I was last year.”

The On3 RPM handicaps Tennessee’s chances of landing Tate at 60.3 percent, with Ohio State trailing behind at 31.1 percent.

Carnell Tate Scouting Summary

On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote the following on Carnell Tate as a prospect:

Well-rounded receiver with technical savvy and large catch radius. Has very long arms and big hands. Highly coordinated with the ability to track, adjust and high-point the football in contested situations. Has shown some encouraging route-running skills. Doubles as a dangerous return man due to his change of direction and open-field vision. A good athlete with play speed, though not quite as fast as some of his peers in a combine setting.
