Tennessee baseball player Daniel Parris in the transfer portal just days before the Volunteers begin their College World Series run, On3 has learned.

Parris failed to see action in his first season in Knoxville after committing to Tennessee out of the 2023 recruiting class with plans to both pitch and play in the infield. Now, he’ll seek a new home for next season.

More on Tennessee dominating Evansville, punching ticket for second straight trip to Omaha

The Tennessee Volunteers are headed back to Omaha for the second straight year.

The No. 1 Vols had to play a third game against Evansville with the winner securing a berth in the College World Series. However, with a 12-1 victory over the Purple Aces, Tennessee earned their right to go back to Charles Schwab Field and celebrated accordingly with a dogpile in front of home plate at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Rocky Top.

Tennessee faced postseason elimination on Sunday in a winner-take-all final. Following a rain delay and a dominant performance on both offense and defense, though, the Volunteers responded with a 12-1 win to advance to the College World Series for the second straight season and the seventh time in program history.

The team that leads the nation in home runs this season let the long ball do a majority of their damage yet again on Sunday. They racked up seven home runs on the night out of their 12 total hits, matching a program postseason single-game home run record and representing the sixth time this season the Vols have homered six-plus times in a game.

ennessee did what Tennessee does at the plate in order to earn this 11-run win. The Vols batted .312 in getting 12 hits with seven home runs, which set a new season-high and new single-game postseason record while also extending their program record in that category this year. That includes a pair apiece for 1B Christian Moore and DH Dalton Bargo.

Despite Tennessee’s offense stealing the show, senior LHP Zander Sechrist also had an excellent performance on the mound in the final home game of his college career. He pitched 6.1 innings where he allowed just six hits, struck out six batters, and allowed zero earned runs on the evening.

This will be the Volunteers’ third trip to Omaha of the last four years and their seventh in school history. This time, they’ll be looking to break the No. 1 seed curse and win the whole thing.
