Tennessee pitcher Andrew Behnke enters NCAA transfer portal

Tennessee pitcher Andrew Behnke entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. He appeared in 14 games out of the bullpen this past season.
Behnke had a 2-0 record out of the ‘pen while finishing the year with a 5.11 ERA across 12.1 innings of work. That came after an impressive sophomore season in 2024 when he went 3-1 with a 3.54 ERA across 28 innings in 23 relief appearances.

Behnke entered the 2025 season on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Stopper of the Year preseason watch list. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Andrew Behnke is the latest transfer departure for Tennessee, which has seen double-digit players hit the open market. The program is also preparing to lose infielder Alex Perry, who officially entered the portal on Wednesday after sitting out the 2025 season due to a “personal matter,” On3 has learned.
Perry was a contributor for Tennessee during its title run. He made only 10 plate appearances but managed to hit .286 with three RBI. He was on the active roster in Omaha for the College World Series that year.

“After my first season without baseball, I can’t wait to be back on the diamond,” Perry wrote. “I’ve decided to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal with two years of eligibility remaining as a SS/3B. Please direct all interest to my advisor.”
Tennessee also made a splash in the transfer portal by landing former East Tennessee State pitcher Brady Frederick. The SoCon Pitcher of the Year, he had an 8-2 record with a 2.67 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP across 77.2 innings in his 24 appearances this past year. He also struck out 76 hitters while allowing just 19 walks and came in as one of On3’s Jonathan Wagner’s Top 10 transfer portal additions so far this cycle.
Tennessee went 46-19 during the 2025 season, including 16-14 in SEC play. The Volunteers hosted a Regional, though, and took down Wake Forest in the final to secure a spot in the Fayetteville Super Regional. That’s where they fell to Arkansas in back-to-back games, missing out on a trip to Omaha.
