Tim Tebow, Roman Harper discuss what Joe Milton must improve on to beat Alabama

With Tennessee taking their talents on the road to clash with the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, SEC Network’s Tim Tebow and Roman Harper examined what Volunteers quarterback Joe Milton must improve on if he’s to lead his team to victory.

First, Tebow explained that while he sees Milton’s unlimited potential at the moment, he believes the routine must become easier for Milton and Tennessee to be successful.

“When I look at Joe, I still see someone that’s talent is off the charts, and he makes some great plays here and there, it’s just got to be more often,” Tebow said, via The Paul Finebaum Show. “Then he’s got to make the plays that most quarterback’s can make. He’s got to make those routine plays, and if he does, then his talent will eventually will take over. But I think because sometimes those aren’t always made, then sometimes there’s that hesitation.”

“… I’m hoping for him. He stayed and he bided his time. It’s hard, you get so much flack and I want him to take that next step, I really think it’s inconsistency. That’s the key.”

Moreover, Harper was in agreement, seconding Tebow’s explanation by adding that Milton must do the simple things better for the Volunteers moving forward.

“I was talking to somebody about Joe Milton earlier … he said, ‘Joe Milton’s almost like a long-drive hitter.’ He can hit it a mile. He can, but there’s a reason why they’re not on the tour, because they can’t make the easy. You know, the hundred-yard shot. The easy putt. The you know, so those are the things that Joe Milton is missing from his game right now,” Harper delineated. “We know he can throw it forever. … He does so many good things really well, but the things we take for granted. The six-yard slant, when the guy’s open. He misses that one.

“But those are the plays that keep you on the field, and allow you as a coordinator to say, ‘Okay, I feel comfortable, because the whole playbook’s up,’ versus ‘Ugh, I don’t know if I trust it,’ now I’m limiting myself and all my play-calling.”

Alas, those are certainly some things Joe Milton will have to be better at for Tennessee’s sake in Tuscaloosa. It could mean the difference between beating the Crimson Tide for the second season in a row, or falling back behind Alabama for the time being.
