Behren Morton injury update: Texas Tech QB leaves game after low hit

Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton left Saturday’s contest against Arkansas-Pine Bluff after a scary hit. Morton took a shot to his lower leg as his knee appeared to buckle under the pressure.
Morton later returned to the sidelines with his team leading 47-0. It’s unclear at this point whether he will return to the game, which just went to halftime.
With the Red Raiders holding such a lopsided advantage, it may be the wise move simply to rest Morton for the remainder of the game to avoid further injury. He carved up the Golden Lions defense to complete 16-of-18 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns in the first half.
Will Hammond entered the game for the injured Morton to close out the half. He would be expected to finish out the game if Morton is unable to return.
Morton is back for his fifth season with the Red Raider with a total of 24 career starts under his belt. Last year he recorded 3,335 yards passing and 27 touchdowns to go along with eight interceptions.

This isn’t the first time Morton has dealt with injury in his career in Lubbock. He is coming off of surgery in December to repair a sprained AC joint. He also dealt with an ankle injury earlier in his career. That in mind, fans are holding their breath that this isn’t serious.
As of this writing the game is in a delay, so we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to find out more about Morton’s status. We’ll certainly hope for the best as we await word.
Behren Morton enters his final season closing in on some of those greats with 6,209 career passing yards, not far from eclipsing the likes of Zebbie Lethridge (6,789), Billy Joe Tolliver (6,756) and B.J. Symons (6,378) for No. 7 on Texas Tech’s list of all-time career passing yard leaders. He spoke in the preseason about what it would mean to potentially be in the same category as some of those names given his personal investment in the Texas Tech program.
“I was born in Lubbock,” Morton told ESPN at Big 12 media days earlier this offseason. “I got to see Graham Harrell, Michael Crabtree and all the greats play in that era at Texas Tech. To be in the position that I am today, it’s such an unreal feeling.”
