For the second season in a row, the Heisman Trophy winner is returning to college football. After Bryce Young came back to Alabama, Caleb Williams will be doing the same at USC. Williams will be hoping the results are a little better though, wanting to make the College Football Playoff and contend for a national championship.

On3’s J.D. PicKell believes Williams will be the best quarterback in college football once again, calling him a “generational” player. The goals he has this upcoming season in Los Angeles are lofty and if they are accomplished, it would be an incredible accomplishment. As PicKell says — special.

“Caleb Williams, generational,” PicKell said. “Will give USC a chance in every single game regardless of what that defense does. That’s how good he is… His goals for 2023, he’s already said he wants to go out and throw 60 touchdowns. He wants to throw for over 5,000 yards. Dude is just special.”

When Williams was a recruit, On3 ranked him as the No. 1 player in the country. He has more than lived up to the hype, beginning during his freshman season at Oklahoma. Once arriving at USC, he transformed into the best player in college football. NFL teams are going to be praying they have the opportunity to draft him next April.

PicKell says we, as college football fans, need to step back and appreciate what we are watching. Before we know it, Williams will be in the NFL — likely having success there as well. We get at least 12 more games of him in a USC jersey before he moves on.

“Really just appreciate this,” PicKell said. “Enjoy this time. We get Caleb Williams as a player in college football. Because I don’t think we’re going to see another one of him anytime soon. Appreciate him like how we appreciated Johnny Manziel, like how we appreciated Reggie Bush. Like how you appreciated Vince Young. I think he’s in that category of special, I truly do.”

USC will kick their season off in Week 0, facing off against San Jose State. The season finale will be against UCLA at the Colesium with plenty of high-level games in-between. Notre Dame, Oregon, and Washington are all on the schedule.

If there is going to be postseason contention, Williams will have to be his normal, special self. And you can bet on that happening — possibly even better than ever.
