Caleb Williams and USC will be back in action on Saturday following their bye week last weekend. The Trojans lost their last time out when they went on the road and were defeated 43-42 by Utah. Now, Williams and his teammates are looking to bring a new spirit to the rest of their season.

Williams spoke about the team’s spark during his media availability after practice on Wednesday. He said he realized his teammates had a new sense about them from the moment they got into the locker room after their loss in Salt Lake City.

“I wouldn’t even say the last two weeks. I’d say right after the game there was a certain energy about the team when we were in the locker room,” said Williams. “The last two weeks we realized that we lost. We accepted it and can’t do anything about it except for learn from it and work towards our next goal, which is going 1-0 this week.”

A big part of the energy inside USC’s program is that they can still accomplish a ton this season. After a week off, the Trojans sit second in the Pac-12 at 3-1. They’re also still Top-10 in the nation with a 6-1 record overall. With three conference games left before they play UCLA and Notre Dame, USC can still play for the Pac-12 title on December 2nd.

That is where the ‘swagger’ comes from and Williams says you could see it immediately after the loss. He used one word to describe the feeling around his team with a path to a successful season still ahead.

“Confidence. We were all sad and a little hurt about it obviously. But there was a certain confidence, a certain swagger that was in the locker room after even though we lost,” Williams said. “You might have been able to see that in us that (were) up there on the podium after the game.”

USC needs some things to break their way in order for them to get back into the national conversation. However, as long as Williams and the Trojans handle business, they can still control their own destiny. With this energy behind them too, they can still earn an opportunity again with a month left to play.
