One of the top high schools games this weekend is between Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei and Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco. USC head coach Lincoln Riley is at the contest, along with defensive backs coach Donte Williams.

The Trojans are recruiting players at both schools. One of their main targets this cycle, Bellflower (Calif.) five-star defensive lineman Matayo Uiagalelei, is playing tonight.

Uiagalelei has visited USC seven times, including for an unofficial last weekend. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Trojans have the third-highest odds (20.4%) to land his commitment.

“I just have a really great relationship with some of the coaches at USC,” Uiagalelei recently told Scott Schrader of WeAreSC. ”USC being in L.A. and that are probably the main things for me. I talk to (defensive line) coach (Shaun) Nua the most and I have a really great relationship with him.”

The RPM also gives USC a close lead (30.2%) for Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star safety R.J. Jones. A former California commit, Jones last visited Los Angeles on Sept. 25, 2021.

Multiple 2024 targets for the Trojans will take the field tonight as well. On St. John Bosco, those players include four-star safety Peyton Woodyard, four-star cornerback Marcelles Williams and four-star linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. Each of these four recruits are top-100 prospects in the 2024 On3 Consensus.

USC is recruiting Mater Dei players such as four-star quarterback Elijah Brown, four-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland, four-star interior offensive lineman DeAndre Carter, four-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker and four-star cornerback Zabien Brown. The Trojans are leading for each of these prospects, according to the RPM.
