Ever since NIL laws and regulations changed on July 1, 2021, many college football fans have wondered if Reggie Bush would be given his Heisman Trophy back from the NCAA. More than two years have passed and fans continue to wonder why the award hasn’t been given back to Bush. The supporters for the former USC legend even put up 15 billboards that read, “Hey NCAA, give Reggie Bush back his Heisman.”

In an interview with USCFootball.com — Bush shared his thoughts on the billboards, NIL, and the transfer portal. Has he seen the billboards around LAX?

“Yep. I’ve seen all of them. There’s about 15 of them,” Bush said.

When asked about his thoughts on the billboards? He didn’t hold back.

“It is what it is man. Listen, I didn’t create the situation. The NCAA created this. So, the fact that, you know, billboards have to get put up and all these different things are going on. And you know, now we’re finding out all this information about how dirty the NCAA was. That’s on them. That’s not on me. I can only control what I can control,” Bush continued.

Reggie Bush also shared his thoughts on NIL

Then, the former Heisman Trophy winner then dove into his thoughts on NIL.

“NIL is the thing you own from birth. So, the fact that the NCAA is trying to say that now you can monetize off of it, to me, just speaks volumes just to the things that they were doing, you know, for so many years, for so long. You know, restricting players, not allowing players to be able to monetize and make money off their own name, image, and likeness. While universities and the NCAA made billions of dollars, annually, as well,” the former USC superstar continued.

“So I’m glad the guys are making money now, but I think the players deserve a piece of the actual pie and that’s a piece of the money they’re bringing in. The revenue they’re bringing in on the football field.”

He also shared his thoughts on the transfer portal

Then, he finally dove into his thoughts on the transfer portal and why he feels it’s so much better for college players today.

“I love the transfer portal. Because kids get a chance to take ownership in their brand. Take ownership in where they are. For so long, coaches could get fired and then go work somewhere literally the next week,” Bush continued. “But for whatever reason, they wanted to restrict the players and make it tough for us to be able to transfer to another school, which I think is unfortunate, because there’s a lot of kids that end up in situations where it’s out of their control. A coach gets fired, new coach comes in, he doesn’t like the guy, whatever that is, and then you’re stuck in a bad situation…”

In his Heisman Trophy-winning season in 2005, Bush knifed his way through opposing defenses to the tune of a staggering 2,611 all-purpose yards, while scoring 18 total touchdowns. And while the USC Trojans lost 41-38 in a classic 2006 Rose Bowl to Vince Young and the Texas Longhorns, that Trojans’ team is also considered one of the greatest college football teams of all-time. The 2006 Rose Bowl is also considered one of the greatest college football games ever played.
