Sam Houston OT transfer Orion Irving commits to Vanderbilt

Former Sam Houston offensive tackle Orion Irving has committed to Vanderbilt out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on social media on Thursday. Irving originally entered the transfer portal on April 16.
At the time of his committment, Irving was the No. 86 overall offensive tackle in the transfer portal. He chose the Commodores over the likes of several schools, including Ohio State, Texas A&M and Mississippi State.
Irving was mostly injured during the 2024 season. However, Irving was healthy in 2023 — his first season as a starter following his redshirt the previous year — and was awarded to the Conference USA’s All-Freshman team for his efforts. Now, he will be tasked with blocking the outside edge for star quarterback Diego Pavia.
He wasn’t the only player to commit to Clark Lea’s squad this week out of the transfer portal. BYU transfer defensive lineman Joshua Singh committed to the Commodores as well, he announced via social media. He entered the transfer portal April 23 after a breakout 2024 season.
Singh appeared in 13 games for BYU a year ago as he took on a larger role on the Cougars’ defensive line. He had 10 tackles, including two tackles for loss, after playing sparingly through the first three years of his career.
