More on Vanderbilt fans and the celebration of a lifetime
Only one word can be used to describe the scene following Vanderbilt upset Alabama — chaos. Fans in Nashville have been going crazy ever since the game went final, celebrating on the field and then taking the party to Broadway. A goalpost from FirstBank Stadium made its way across the city with them too.
To cap off the festivities, the goalpost is soon to be at the bottom of the Cumberland River. Fans gathered around the see it thrown into the river and cheer. Once in the water, a “Seven Nations Army” chant broke out.
No better way to celebrate a historic upset than running around with a goalpost from the game. Now, they can call the river home for the rest of its time, signifying the job Vanderbilt did to beat the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide.

This is not the first time we have seen a goalpost end up in a river in the state of Tennessee. Also occurring following a big-time win against Alabama, Vols fans threw one from Neyland Stadium into the Tennessee River, having a similar kind of party.
Fans in Knoxville had their fun back in 2022 but now, it’s time for the in-state rival to get in on the action.
“I’m proud of our team,” Vandy head coach Clark Lea said postgame as fans stormed the field. “I believe in our team, I believe in what we’re building. There’s more for us than this. This isn’t the finishing point but it’s a hell of an arrival. Tonight, we’ll celebrate it. I love this university, I love this team. Let’s go get some more.”
