Virginia Tech WR Tucker Holloway plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal

To this point of their opened portal window, the Hokies had lost only one player following the firing of Brent Pry. That total is now up to two with another sharing that he’ll be leaving Blacksburg.
Virginia Tech wide receiver Tucker Holloway plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. Holloway announced his intentions to transfer this morning with a graphic on social media.
“Dear Virginia Tech, from the bottom of my heart, thank you,” Holloway wrote. “To Coach Pry, thank you for giving me an opportunity. To my teammates who became my brothers, thank you for the countless memories that I will cherish long after my time in Blacksburg.
“I gave every ounce to this program because of how much I loved Virginia Tech and Blacksburg – it will always be home. To the community, thank you for embracing me in evert way and helping me grow and develop into the man I am today both on and off the field. After much thought and prayer, I will be redshirting and entering my name into the transfer portal with two years of eligibility left.
Virginia Tech fired Pry on September 14th following an 0-3 start for the Hokies, with losses to South Carolina and Vanderbilt before a 45-26 defeat taken against Old Dominion. With that decision made, the NCAA Transfer Portal opened for a month-long window for the players at VT. Holloway now joins CB Dante Lovett as the only players who have decided to go to this point.

Holloway had just started his fourth season at Virginia Tech. He appeared in 22 games in total for the Hokies, with a medical redshirt taken in missing all of last season with an injury. That includes all four this season, as Holloway had five catches for 82 yards. That yardage is already a career-best, while the five receptions also tie his career-high. A pair of catches for 34 yards came this past weekend, in what’s now his final game with the program, in the 38-6 win over Wofford.
In parts of three seasons on the field, Holloway has posted 13 catches for 149 yards, while also rushing once for a 33-yard touchdown. He also has served at times as a returner, with one kick return for 23 yards and then 34 punt returns for 476 yards with one of those going back for a touchdown. That was highlighted in 2023 when he was All-ACC Third Team as a punt returner after bringing back 20 for 258 yards at 12.9 per punt return.
Playing in just four games this season, Holloway has elected to redshirt and eventually enter his name into the portal. He’ll now be the second to leave Virginia Tech with that, with more likely to come the next three weeks or come the offseason.
