According to two sources close to his recruitment, four-star quarterback Avery Johnson is taking an official visit this weekend to Washington.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound signal-caller from Maize (Kan.) High School has had the Huskies on his list for a while. But the visit will be his first time in Seattle meeting with the UDub coaches.

Johnson recently said the schools recruiting him the hardest are Kansas StateOregonVirginia and Washington. He is also scheduled to visit Oregon on June 17. He is expected to be a K-State on June 11, according to KStateOnline.com.

“I definitely don’t want to run my commitment past June,” Johnson said.

Johnson does have a serious interest in the Huskies, especially because new head coach Kalen DeBoer is an offensive-minded coach. He said the offense he and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb are set to run in Washington is really attractive to him.

“I want to be able to throw it all over the yard,” Johnson said. “Coach Grubb has showed me the numbers. He and DeBoer have been all over the place and they put up the same numbers. It doesn’t matter what type of guys they have or talent, I guess you could say. They do the same things at each spot.”

K-State still favored for Avery Johnson

While both Oregon and Washington have trips on the books for Johnson, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine leans heavily in favor of the in-state school. K-State has an 82% chance of landing Johnson, according to the On3 RPM. The Wildcats have made the local star a priority from day one.

Oregon is listed at 3% and Washington at 1.9%, according to the On3 RPM. The Ducks still remain in hot pursuit of other quarterbacks like Jaden Rashada and Dante Moore. Washington is also targeting other quarterbacks like Lincoln Kienholz and Aidan Chiles. Yet, with official visits locked in, Johnson also appears to be high on both schools’ lists.

Johnson plans to announce his decision shortly before he leaves for the Elite 11 Finals. He earned an invitation to the coveted quarterback competition in mid-March after a strong performance at the regional event in Nashville.
