Washington head coach Jedd Fisch provided an injury update on QB Demond Williams Jr. following a viral clip from Saturday’s broadcast. During Washington’s game against Maryland, a 24-20 win, Williams was seen flexing his throwing hand on the sideline while throwing.

But it was much ado about nothing according to Fisch. So take a deep breath Husky fans!

“He had a cramp,” Fisch said. And since that was it, Williams should be good to go moving forward.

Washington plays host to Rutgers this weekend, with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. ET on Friday night. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a bye week but are on a two-game losing streak.

Williams is an exciting thrower and runner from the QB position, so Washington certainly gives themselves an edge against most opponents. With the Scarlet Knights losing 38-28 and 31-28 in recent shootouts to Iowa and Minnesota, Williams could take advantage this week.

Against Maryland, Williams went 28-of-41 passing for 275 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He added 57 yards on the ground.

Williams has had a solid season as a sophomore. Coming off a freshman year with an intriguing stat line, he’s already equated or passed his numbers through just five games.

This year, Williams has 1,226 yards, eight touchdowns, one interception and a 73.3% completion percentage. He also has 246 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Washington’s lone loss this season was a 24-6 loss to Ohio State at home two weeks ago. Other than that, Washington outscored their opponents 191-75 in their four wins. However, Fisch and the Huskies fell to Rutgers in Piscataway last season 21-18 on a Friday night showcase in the Big Ten.

Williams actually appeared in the game, throwing and completing one pass for eight yards and also ran three times for 12 yards. He sat behind Will Rogers last season.

According to ESPN’s FPI analytics and matchup predictor, Washington has a 75.8% chance to win Friday night. No doubt Williams plays a part in the matchup.

What could keep the Rutgers’ defense on their heels is the combination of Williams and running back Jonah Coleman. Coleman has 474 yards on the ground along with 10 rushing touchdowns.

So if you see Williams flexing his hand again, it’s probably just a cramp. Otherwise, he’s good to go for Friday as Washington looks to improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in the Big Ten.
