Jedd Fisch declares Demond Williams a superstar: 'He is special'

The Washington offense started off slow in a game against Rutgers on Friday night, leading to the team trailing 10-0 by the end of the first quarter. Quarterback Demond Williams was just heating up, though.
By the time he was done, Washington had secured a comfortable 38-19 win and Williams had done some record-setting work. That led coach Jedd Fisch to make a pretty simple proclamation in his post-game press conference.
“He is special,” Fisch said. “And we’ve known that for a lot of years now. So it’s great to have Demond continue to be who we think we are.”
So what did Demond Williams do? Well, he threw for 402 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 136 yards and two more scores.
That sent him flying into the school record books. And making a pretty good name for himself among some other prominent quarterbacks in FBS history — he was just the 16th gunslinger to rack up at least 400 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in a game.
Some others who have accomplished that feat over the years? Try on Lamar Jackson, Michael Vick and Archie Manning on for size.
Demond Williams also set some school records. Fisch went further in praising his awesome quarterback.

“I thought that Demond Williams is a superstar,” Fisch said. “And the fact that he had, from what I understand, the all-time total offense record of 538 yards at University of Washington, the fact that he’s the first person at University of Washington to have over 400 yards passing and over 100 yards rushing, and the 16th person in the history of college football to do that.”
How does Demond Williams stack up overall this season? Well, he’s thrown for 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns, against just one interception, in six games this season. He has also run for 382 yards and four scores.
Could he begin to merit some Heisman Trophy mention? It’s certainly possible. And Washington still has some big stages left.
The program will take on Michigan on the road this week. Then it’ll take on Oregon at home in the regular season finale. Those games will provide plenty of chances to juice a real run at college football’s top award.
