Washington‘s star DB Tacario Davis is doubtful to play against Ohio State on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Davis, who is a 2024 second-team All-Big 12 selection, has been out for most of the season.

Davis was injured after making a diving interception against UC Davis on Sept. 6 and has been trying to get back on the field ever since. Unfortunately for the Huskies, it appears as though he may not be ready in time for kickoff.

“That obviously looms large against the No. 1 Buckeyes,” Thamel said on ESPN’s College GameDay. “He’s Washington’s top corner. Ohio State’s offense, they have some pretty good receivers.”

Through two games played, Davis has recorded one tackle, one interception and a pass breakup before going down with his injury. If he’s unable to go against Ohio State, he’ll try to get back in time for Week 6 against Maryland.

Davis isn’t the only injury to Washington’s defensive unit. During the Huskies’ 59-24 Apple Cup victory over Washington State last week, junior linebacker Taariq “Buddah” Al-Uqdah injured his left knee and is expected to miss several weeks while recovering.

Despite the defensive setbacks, the Huskies are off to a 3-0 start and have won each of their matchups by at least three scores. Their closest win was a 38-21 win over Colorado State in the season opener. However, they’re currently averaging 55.6 points per game after putting up 70 and 59 points, respectively, against UC Davis and Washington State.

Davis will hope to find himself back on the field soon. A senior, he’s in his first season with Washington after spending the first three years at Arizona. He opted to remain with the Wildcats after head coach Jedd Fisch made the jump up north, but Davis reunited with the head coach he committed to out of high school earlier this offseason.

As a junior, he had a breakout season in Arizona’s secondary. He logged 43 total tackles during the campaign to go along with six pass breakups. This followed a sophomore season where he was responsible for breaking up 15 passes for the Wildcats.

Davis recorded his first and only interception of his Arizona career that year. The second pick of his career came on the play he was injured.

Kickoff between Washington and Ohio State is set for 3:30 p.m. ET. CBS and Paramount+ will carry the live broadcast.
