Washington guard Wesley Yates plans to enter NCAA transfer portal

Washington guard Wesley Yates, a former highly touted recruit in the class of 2023, has announced his plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Yates spent just one season with the Huskies, with a broken foot keeping him from making any appearances during the season.
“First off, I want to say thank you to the University of Washington and Husky nation for an incredible year that I will never forget,” Yates wrote on Twitter in a post announcing his decision. Although due to injuries we weren’t able to witness my playing abilities, I am forever grateful to be a part of such an amazing program.
“This year was the most challenging of my life because I wanted to give my all on the court to the purple and gold.”
Injuries had other ideas. Wesley Yates brook his foot, then later re-injured it and never played a minute.

Now he’ll seek greener pastures elsewhere, though Washington will be in consideration as well.
“I would love to say thank you to my coaches and support staff for the love and care for me throughout this part in my journey,” Yates wrote. “I look forward to playing at an elite level in the 2024-25 season.
“I’d like to thank God and my family for guidance and after thoughtful consideration, I will be entering the transfer portal. I will explore other universities as well as the possibility of staying at UW. Much love and Respect.”
Prior to enrolling at Washington, Wesley Yates was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 51 overall recruit in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
He checked in as the No. 12 shooting guard in his class and the No. 4 overall player in the state of Texas, hailing from Beaumont (TX) Beaumont United.
