4-star Georgia RB Justin Williams decommits from West Virginia

Dallas (Ga.) East Paulding running back Justin Williams has decommitted from West Virginia. He announced the news Wednesday on Twitter.

Williams is the No. 341 overall recruit in the nation, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also ranked as the 30th-best running back in the nation and the No. 29 player from the Peach State.

The Mountaineers recruiting class was ranked No. 26 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking before Wednesday’s news. They dropped down to No. 29 following the news.

The class now has 16 recruits and three four-star recruits. Those recruits are Miami Gulliver Prep four-star linebacker Travious Lathan, Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton four-star quarterback Nicco Marchiol and Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star cornerback Jacolby Spells.

Multiple schools have been trying to flip Justin Williams

Alabama, Auburn, Michigan and Tennessee have all been working on flipping the four-star running back in recent weeks.

Each of those four teams has one running back commit currently in their class. The Crimson Tide have Geneva County (Hartford, AL) five-star Emmanuel Henderson, the Tigers have Woodward Academy (Atlanta, GA) four-star Damari Alston, the Wolverines have Hammond School (Columbia, SC) three-star CJ Stokes and the Vols have Geismar (La.) Dutchtown (Geismar, LA) three-star Dylan Sampson.

Williams has visited the Plains twice this season, despite not holding an offer from Auburn. He also expressed interest to Auburn Live after his second visit on Nov. 2 about returning later in the season.

“If they (offer), that would be a blessing,” Williams said at that time. “It would be tough, but I’d definitely look more into Auburn. It’s close to home. West Virginia is still a good spot, but I’d be open to looking into Auburn because it’s so close to home and it’s an SEC school.”
