Incarnate Word Cardinals edge rusher Devin Grant has committed to transfer to the West Virginia Mountaineers. Grant previously played for the Colorado Buffaloes as well.

Coming out of high school at Antonian College Prep in Texas, Devin Grant was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2020. He was the 601st-ranked player overall and the 46th-ranked edge rusher in that recruiting class. Eventually, he would go to Colorado over West Virginia, Utah, and Oklahoma State among others.

Devin Grant would play three seasons at Colorado. That included starting to make more of an on-field impact in his third season with the program, playing in 10 games in his third college season in 2022. At that point, he was listed as a third-year freshman because of the 2020 season not counting toward eligibility while only playing three games in 2021. By the spring of 2023, Deion Sanders had taken over at head coach for the Buffaloes and Grant would enter the portal that spring for the first time, landing at Incarnate Word.

In two seasons at Incarnate Word, Devin Grant made a total of 40 tackles and had 9.0 sacks. That includes 7.5 sacks in the 2024 season. He also had two forced fumbles. That effort helped Incarnate Word to go 20-5 over those two seasons, including a trip to the FCS playoffs.

Now, Devin Grant is on the move again and will look to bring plenty of experience to the West Virginia Mountaineers on defense. There, he’ll look to help West Virginia under new head coach Rich Rodriguez and new defensive coordinator Zac Alley.

Rodriguez has been incredibly active in the Transfer Portal since getting back to Morgantown for his second tenure. The Mountaineers currently have the 57th-ranked transfer class in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That includes 44 players who have transferred out of the program and another 47 who have transferred into the program this offseason. However, Devin Grant is not yet included in that number.

Including the outgoing seniors and incoming freshmen and the Mountaineers can expect a completely new-looking team next season. That roster flip is the first step in Rich Rodriguez’s attempt to get West Virginia rebuilt and competitive in the Big 12 again.
