WATCH: Tre Mitchell ejected after flagrant 2 foul for elbow to face

West Virginia forward Tre Mitchell threw a big elbow while fighting for post position against Iowa State, drawing a flagrant 2 foul. Officials then had to separate Mitchell from the Cyclones team as they came to the defense of Aljaz Kunc after he took issue with the elbow. After a lengthy replay they ruled the foul a flagrant 2 and ejected Mitchell.

Tensions were running high throughout most of the second half up to Mitchell’s ejection, but they came to a boiling point for sure with the elbow thrown. West Virginia was trailing in a game that could be a must-win situation for them as the NCAA Tournament approaches. The Mountaineers entered the Big 12 showdown as one of the “Last Four In” according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, and they were trailing still midway through the second half.
West Virginia responded in a big way after the ejection however, draining a three after the free throws were shot for both sides and cutting the lead to just one point as the Cyclones fans booed loudly.
