Tying the Bow on Tennessee: An elite defensive day, Arch Manning against the blitz and the best EDGE duo in the nation?

For the second year in a row, Texas is going to open SEC play on the road against a former East division team with a stout defense and a power run

Texas vs Tennessee preview: How the Longhorns can avoid a defensive struggle on the road

It may not be the sexiest part of the sport, but the importance of special teams success continues to ramp up as the Texas Longhorns enter SEC

Colton Vasek

Colton Vasek has football in his blood. His father, Brian Vasek, is the defensive line coach at Austin Westlake, and he played college football for the Texas Longhorns. Colton had an outstanding junior season that helped put him on the national recruiting map. He recorded 56 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, one pass breakup and two forced fumbles. He’s also a winner, playing a key role in two Class 6A state titles for the Chaps. In fact, Vasek was also awarded defensive MVP in Westlake's 40-21 win over Denton Guyer in the 2020 6A Division I State Championship game. Away from the field, Vasek enjoys hunting and fishing.

Colton Vasek's technical acuity with his quick hands and array of pass rush moves reminds us of Trey Hendrickson. Vasek is a little taller than Hendrickson and is a more touted high school prospect.

Elite / Top 100

Productive, polished pass rusher for perennial Texas powerhouse program Austin Westlake. Helped lead his team to a state championship by tallying 56 tackles and 10 sacks during his junior campaign. Stands in at a filled out 6-foot-5, 225 pounds. Possesses average length for an edge rusher despite his height with 32.5-inch arms. Natural pass rusher with a wide array of pass rush moves. Burst and get off are solid coming off the line of scrimmage. Strong at the point of attack. Does an excellent job using his hands to stack and shed in the run game. Much more power than you would think for his size. Took over the state title game as a junior with multiple sacks of five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold. Turned in a very strong senior season with 14 sacks and 21 tackles for loss. High floor prospect who will be a significant role player at the next level and has a chance to become a draft pick if he can add quality mass to his frame and maintain his athleticism. Threw nearly 50 feet in the shot put and just over 160 feet in the discus as a junior. Father, Brian Vasek, played along the defensive line for the University of Texas from 1991 to 1995.
