Mississippi StateMississippi State · HS Class of 2009
Philadelphia2012 Draft · Rnd 1 · Pick 12

Like Fletcher Cox, Daevin Hobbs is a top athlete who projects as a high upside interior pass rusher. Both had similar frames and length at the same stage along with registering high-end speed in combine settings. They also both were dominant high school players at smaller programs. Hobbs is a two-way star as a defensive end and tight end. He also doubles as a basketball standout, while Cox ran track at his high school. Cox was a bit taller at the same stage.

Daevin Hobbs Scouting Summary
Charles Power
06/06/22

Nimble jumbo athlete who makes big plays as a tight end and defensive end, likely projecting along the defensive line long-term. Has good size, measuring at around 6-foot-3, 275 pounds with 34.75-inch arms. A gifted athlete with high-end speed at his size. Consistently ran in the 4.7's at college camps. Shows flashes dominance as a two-way standout at the high school level, playing tight end and defensive line. Has the athleticism to run down plays in pursuit and the closing speed to finish plays behind the line with authority. A big threat down the seam at tight end and is talented enough to play on offense in college. Can pull away from defensive backs in the open field. Extends and elevates to come down with grabs over the middle of the field. A very good high school basketball player who was the MVP of a state title team as a junior. Throws down emphatic dunks in transition. Unrefined technically as a defensive lineman and should see improvement on that front once he focuses on the position at the next level. May need to adjust to the level of competition coming from a lower classification in high school.

Personal Life

When Daevin Hobbs turned away from basketball and focused only on football, everything feel in place for him to become one of the most heavily recruited high school players in the country. “My sophomore year, I started to take football more seriously,” Hobbs said. “I bought in, and it led to where I’m at today.” Hobbs’ sister, Ella, is one of the most heavily recruited women’s basketball prospects in the country. The siblings competed against each other and that made them both better. “Not everyone has this,” Daevin Hobbs said. “We pushed each other every day when we were little to get to this point. It’s what we dreamed of. I’m glad it worked out.”
