Donovan Edwards was a four-star recruit and the nation's No. 2 running back prospect coming out of West Bloomfield (Michigan) High School in the Class of 2021. After appearing in 12 games as a freshman, he had a breakout sophomore season in 2022. Edwards rushed for 991 yards with seven touchdowns and added 18 receptions for 200 yards with two more scores. Edwards was named Michigan's Offensive Player of the Week four times as a junior in 2023, but was mainly used as the Wolverines' second-string back behind Blake Corum. However, Edwards had a monster performance in the College Football Playoff championship game.
