As a Recruit
Through his first few seasons at Gaither, Eugene Wilson III developed into one of the most explosive playmakers in the Sunshine State. His coach, Kirk, Karsen, said Wilson has become the team’s most valuable player. “He is our leader and the heartbeat of our team,” Karsen said. “We were a completely different team when he is on the field. The energy he brings makes our team feel like we can win any game.” In 2021, Wilson racked up 62 catches for 925 yards. Wilson missed part of his senior season with a turf toe injury, but he returned in time for the playoffs. “I never really looked at myself as a type of quitter," Wilson said. "I always called myself a fighter, but, really after being able to come back and put up numbers I have, I really feel I live up to that.”
Reminds Us Of
Eugene Wilson III's coordination, elite change of direction and ball tracking ability remind us of Chris Olave. Wilson is around an inch shorter than Olave and is a two-way standout as a receiver and corner. Olave had strong track times and saw his recruitment take off after a huge senior season.
