Ranked as a five-star recruit by On3, Jermaine Mathews signed with Ohio State in the Class of 2023 after also taking an official visit to Cincinnati and being offered by numerous national programs. However, the Cincinnati Winton Woods High School native said it was always “in his heart to play for the Buckeyes.” Mathews was named the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association Division II Southwest District Defensive Player of the Year and the Division II Defensive Player of the Year. He finished his 2022 season with 51 total tackles, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and six interceptions. He returned three of his six interceptions for touchdowns. Mathews’ mother is Bianca Adkins.
