Recruiting Class of 2023
On3 DB / Mackenzie Mgbako

As a College Recruit

It is all about the jump shot. The release is consistent, high, and soft. Mgbako steps into it confidently off the catch and his balance is right on. Then you see the positional size at 6-foot-8/6-foot-9 and you see the attraction. Past the jump shot, Mgbako attacks closeouts in a straight line. His handle is average, his hips seem a little stiff, and he is a slightly above average athlete. Despite each of these being a concern moving forward, the shooting and the confidence are very real traits here and he rebounds his area. Mgbako has consistently performed at a high level is big settings.

The efficiency Mackenzie Mgbako played with stood out. He has a strong frame with long arms and good size. I thought Mgbako moved really well here on defense, showing he could slide his feet with perimeter players in a possible 3&D archetype. Mgbako played within two dribbles and got to what he wanted on offense. While he could finish better at the rim, he knocked down the shots he was supposed make and got to the free throw line. Mgbako also showed toughness on the boards.

He finished with 22 points and 8 rebounds. He was 6-14 FG, 2-5 3P, and 8-10 FT

Mackenzie Mgbako showed a clear path here as a potential 3-and-D player. He is listed at 6-9 on the roster and showed that he is a good shooter when his feet are set from 3. The next step is wanting to see the handle tighten, be able to create offense for self. Defensively, he has always been a god team defender. Here he showed an ability to move his feet with wings. Continued progression.
