As a College Recruit

Long considered one of the best prospects in the cycle, dating back to his freshman season. A big, quick-twitch athlete along the defensive line who grew an inch and added around 30 pounds between his junior and senior seasons. Has outstanding length with a 7-foot wingspan. A natural mover who makes high-level flash plays with his athleticism and first-step quickness. Is able to beat offensive linemen out of their stance with his burst off the snap. An explosive finisher who makes a number of emphatic plays behind the line of scrimmage. Also shows his athleticism in pursuit, with the ability to run down skill players sideline-to-sideline at 270 pounds. Missed much of his junior season with injury. Has the athleticism and versatility to line up at various spots along the defensive line at the next level.

Like Carlos Dunlap, Shemar Stewart is a big blue-chip defensive end who has the size and athleticism to line up at a few spots along the front. Dunlap was an On3 Consensus top five prospect out of North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester in the 2007 cycle. Stewart has long been considered one of the top prospects in the 2022 cycle, dating to his freshman season. The two share similar stature, officially measuring between 6-foot-5 and 6-foot-6. Dunlap was a bit leaner as a high school prospect, in the 250 to 260 pound range, while Stewart has weighed in the 270’s. Both are top athletes with the ability to make impressive plays with their power and explosive movements in tracking down runners in pursuit.

Charles Power

Shemar Stewart was the top defensive lineman for Team Icons over the course of the week. The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder has a strong combination of size, power and explosive movement skills. Stewart was able to convert speed to power as a pass rusher off the edge. We saw him make a handful of flash plays in the game, as well. Stewart set the edge on a run stuff and showed off some impressive athleticism in tracking down a running back from the back side. Miami, Texas A&M and Georgia are in the mix for On3 Consensus five-star’s signature.

Charles Power

Stewart has long been considered among the best prospects in this cycle. He was even considered perhaps the No. 1 prospect early on after breaking out as a freshman. The 6-foot-5.5, 270-pounder has maintained that upward trajectory despite missing much of his junior season at Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Pace. Stewart is a big, quick athlete and turned in some strong showings during the offseason on the camp circuit and spring football.
