As a Recruit
Personal Life
Tony Mitchell was a household name on the recruiting trail before starting classes in high school. Mitchell originally committed to Tennessee in late spring of his eighth-grade year before realizing he made that decision in the heat of the moment and backed off the pledge. “I just wasn’t feeling it anymore,” Mitchell said after decommitting. “It wasn’t the place I was meant to be at the time.” When he did arrive in high school, Mitchell made an immediate impact by helping Thompson win state titles in his freshman and sophomore seasons. Things got even better as a junior, as Mitchell was named to the MaxPreps Junior All-America team and Thompson won its third straight title. Mitchell describes himself as "laid back" off the field, but on the field, he prides himself in being a leader. “I push myself every day to get out of my comfort zone and be more of a vocal leader,” Mitchell said. “I’m just determined to do whatever it takes to help my teammates out and lead our team every time we step on the field.”

Reminds Us Of
Tony Mitchell is a bigger safety who has experience playing multiple spots in the secondary. He’s close in size to Keanu Neal at the same stage at around 6-foot-1, 205 pounds Mitchell also shows a level of physicality that reminds us of the former Florida safety. Neal had more verified athleticism than Mitchell at the same stage in their careers.
