Xavier Hutchinson -- a Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail grad -- was named the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year in 2020. Hutchinson then was a first-team all-league pick in 2021 after he led the Big 12 in receptions per game (6.4) and was second in receiving yards (987). Hutchinson also racked up four 100-yard receiving games in 2021, which is fourth in school history. “X is a unique player,” Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said. “He can do a lot of different things. The best thing is getting the football in his hands. He is a dynamic playmaker.” Hutchinson originally picked the Cyclones over Oklahoma, Nebraska and Syracuse coming out of Blinn (Texas) Junior College. During the 2019 season at Blinn, he tallied 47 receptions for 652 yards and five scores. In high school, Hutchinson earned third-team all-state honors during his senior season.
