As the Chicago Sky trailed the New York Liberty 26-15 after the first quarter, Angel Reese headed over to the sideline for an interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe. Mid-question, she also had an assist.

Reese fixed Rowe’s eyelash in the middle of the interview. The longtime ESPN reporter thanked her for looking out even as Chicago faced an 11-point deficit following a turnover-filled first quarter.

“Are you fixing my eyelash?” Rowe said after her first question to Reese. “I love that so much. Thank you.”

It was a lighthearted moment, but Reese still understood the task at hand against the reigning WNBA champions. The Sky had to get back on track and avoid turning the ball over as they did through the opening 10 minutes.

“I’ve just got to trust my work,” Reese said after putting up seven points and pulling down six rebounds. “It’s gonna jump at the right time. One bucket at a time to get us back in this game. We started off slow. I’ve got to help this team as much as I can – if it’s rebounding, shooting, assists. We’ve got to get stops.”

Chicago is going up against the defending champs without its point guard. Courtney Vandersloot suffered a torn ACL last time out against the Indiana Fever and will miss the rest of the season. That means the Sky will turn to Hailey Van Lith and Rachel Banham at the point, and Reese praised the way they’re handling the moment.

“Hailey and Rachel, they’ve worked hard in training camp and throughout the year,” Reese said. “So I know that we’ve prepared for this moment, and also, I can help out, too.”

The Liberty continued to dominate Tuesday’s game in the second quarter, eventually taking a commanding 52-32 lead into halftime. Breanna Stewart led the charge for New York with 13 points and five rebounds, while Angel Reese was closing in on another double-double with 11 points and nine boards at the break.

New York is looking to stay unbeaten to start the 2025 WNBA season. The Liberty entered Tuesday’s game with a perfect 8-0 record as they look to defend their title.

Chicago, meanwhile, is looking to get back on the winning side after a blowout loss to the Fever over the weekend. The Sky entered Tuesday with a 2-5 record, with both wins coming against the Dallas Wings.
