Angel Reese injury update: Chicago Sky announce status vs. Mystics

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese will play in Tuesday’s matchup against the Washington Mystics, according to coach Tyler Marsh. It will mark a return to the court after she missed the previous two games due to a back injury.
So far this season, Reese is averaging 13.8 points, 12.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Having her back will be a big boost for the Sky, which enter the contest in the midst of a five-game losing streak.
However, while Reese will return, the Sky still have several other injured players. Chicago has also been without leading scorer Ariel Atkins for the past four games. Atkins has already been ruled out for Tuesday’s matchup, while Hailey Van Lith and Michaela Onyenwere are both questionable.
The Sky have been one of the worst teams in the WNBA so far this season with an overall record of 7-18. Only the Connecticut Sun (4-21) have a worse record. There’s still plenty of games left, though, and a victory Tuesday could be what they need to get some momentum going.
Reese will go up against a Mystics frontcourt that features Shakira Austin and rookie Kiki Iriafen, the latter of which was voted a WNBA All-Star. That will make for an interesting battle between those two against Reese and Kamilla Cardoso when the action tips off at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Angel Reese declares Chicago Sky ‘best young core in the league’ after upset of Minnesota Lynx
After an 87-81 victory over the Minnesota Lynx at Wintrust Arena about two weeks ago, Reese hyped up the Sky’s roster. She and Cardoso helped lead the charge, each recording a double-double. In fact, Reese saw Saturday’s performance as a statement.
he former LSU star declared the sky the WNBA’s “best young core,” likely alluding to an ESPN article released last month on that topic. The Sky came in as the No. 7-ranked core in the league, though the trio of Reese, Cardoso and Hailey Van Lith were listed as players to build around. To Reese, though, Chicago proved it should be at the top.
“Somebody said we wasn’t the best young core in the league. I think we’re the best young core in the league, for sure. Hands down,” Reese told Angel Gray on the ABC broadcast. “The Skyscrapers, we’re doing it every single night. I’m really proud of everybody, including [Elizabeth Williams]. E-Will comes in and does what she does. I’m just super happy for the team.”
