In the Chicago Sky’s 78-66 win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, Angel Reese recorded her first career triple-double. In the victory, Reese tallied 11 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists while shooting 2-7 from the field. Reese recorded three steals and two blocks in the win as well.

Reese’s triple-double is only the second in the WNBA this season. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark posted a triple-double in the Fever’s win over Chicago Sky in the WNBA season-opener.

Reese’s performance today is a promising sign for Sky fans. The former LSU standout hasn’t hit her stride yet this season, and is averaging fewer points and rebounds per game than she did in her rookie campaign.

Additionally, Angel Reese is only connecting on 36.3% of her field-goal attempts. For reference, she shot 39.1% from the floor last season. Despite Reese’s rocky start to the season, on Sunday, she reminded everyone why she’s one of the brightest young stars in the game.

Reese’s success didn’t come without some pushback. Midway through the third quarter of the game, Reese got into an altercation with several Connecticut Sun players after they fouled her on a shot attempt. The referees had to step between the players.

Reese was assessed a technical foul for the play, her second of the season. In the WNBA, players are fined $200 for their first three technical fouls of the season. Thus, Reese can expect a fine to head her way as punishment for the heated exchange.

Dave Portnoy takes jab at Angel Reese

This isn’t the first time this season that Reese has nearly come to blows with an opponent. After Caitlin Clark committed a Flagrant 1 foul against her in May, Reese went after the WNBA superstar.

Clark’s teammate, Aliyah Boston, ultimately got in Reese’s way and the officials gave both players technical fouls. Reese received immense backlash for her response to Clark’s hard foul. Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy was particularly critical of Reese.

“Race-baiters on the left, race-baiters on the right, every day trying to make this rivalry about race,” Portnoy said. “I’m sure there are some black people who hate Caitlin just because she’s white. I’m sure there’s white people who hate Angel just because she’s black. But I want to speak for what I feel is Caitlin Clark fans.

“The way Ryan Clark just drops my name, like ‘hate,’ like Caitlin Clark fans or Fever fans or Iowa Hawkeye fans don’t have a right or reason to hate Angel Reese, like she’s a victim out of the clouds just because of the color of their skin, is infuriating. Caitlin fans have every reason to hate Angel Reese. I say hate in the sports sense… Angel Reese has been nothing but an instigator, agitator and jack*ss, basically, for the last couple of years.”
