Angel Reese reacts to Napheesa Collier comments about Cathy Engelbert

Angel Reese appears to be in full agreement with the comments from Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier regarding WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert. Collier unloaded on Tuesday during the Lynx’s exit interviews, making a lengthy statement in which she criticized Engelbert’s leadership.
Reese, like many in the WNBA, saw the news and decided to offer up her reaction on social media. She praised Collier for speaking out and had nothing else to add.
“10/10,” Reese wrote. “No notes!”
Among the many things that Napheesa Collier brought up in her statement was a conversation she had with Engelbert in which she mentioned Angel Reese along with Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers. Collier questioned how those three players in particular were making so little on their rookie contracts while at the same time driving “massive revenue” for the league.
Clark, who was the No. 1 overall pick in 2024, made a salary of $78,066 this year from her WNBA contract. Reese was the No. 7 pick that same year and made $74,909 this season.
At the same time, both players are still well paid through endorsement deals outside of the WNBA. Reese has had deals with brands such as McDonald’s and Reebok, with whom she just released her first signature shoe. She has an estimated net worth of $1.7 million according to Yahoo! Sports and almost all of it is coming outside of her WNBA salary.

Collier stated that in response to her question, Engelbert told her that Clark and others should be “grateful” to make that money off the court “because, without the platform that the WNBA gives her, she wouldn’t make anything.”
“That’s the mentality driving our league from the top,” Collier said. “We go to battle every day to protect a shield that doesn’t value us. The league believes it succeeds despite its players, not because of them.
Sports Business Journal reported Tuesday after Collier’s comments that Engelbert is “likely to exit” as WNBA commissioner once collective bargaining talks end. It seems that is a move that most players in the league would be in favor of, including Reese.
Reese just wrapped up her second season with the Chicago Sky, putting up averages of 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds per game while shooting 45.8% from the floor. However, the Sky ended the season tied for the worst record in the WNBA at 10-34. They enter a pivotal offseason, as does the entire league with CBA negotiations.
