Chicago Sky star Angel Reese received a technical foul in the second quarter of Wednesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. It’s her eighth of the year, meaning she’s set to serve a one-game suspension as a result, according to WNBA rules.

Reese got whistled for the tech with 46.2 seconds remaining in the first half. She appeared to make contact with Aaliyah Edwards while preparing to defend a possible rebound, and the officials went to the monitor to review the contact.

Ultimately, they deemed it enough to warrant a technical foul. Per WNBA rules, that means Reese is due to serve a one-game suspension for the next game against the Indiana Fever unless it is rescinded.

Through the first half of Wednesday’s game, Reese was in the midst of another strong performance as the Sky took a 42-27 lead into halftime. She had nine points and six rebounds, along with two steals, to help lead the charge.

Reese is in the midst of a strong second season in the WNBA despite battling injuries throughout the year. She entered the matchup against Connecticut averaging 14.6 points and 12.6 rebounds across 29 games, and her shooting percentage is up to 46.3% this year after going 39.1% from the field as a rookie.

Ahead of tip-off, however, the former LSU star made headlines following an interview with the Chicago Tribune. Reese expressed frustration with the Sky’s struggles over the last two seasons, and the franchise is on pace to have a worse record than it did a year ago.

According to the Tribune, Angel Reese said she doesn’t think either Hailey Van Lith or Rachel Banham are capable of leading the charge for a playoff team. She also pointed out the impact Courtney Vandersloot can have, but cited her age as a factor in the Sky’s ability to rely on her at the point guard position. However, she suffered a season-ending ACL injury this season.

Reese also called on the Sky to bring in “great players” this offseason. She also said this offseason would be “important” for the team.

“I’m not settling for the same s−−− we did this year,” Reese said. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.

“I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.”
