Angel Reese sets WNBA record for consecutive games with 15+ rebounds after double-double vs. LA

While Caitlin Clark is going through one of the toughest slumps of her young professional career and dealing with injury, Angel Reese is shaking off the rust and putting together one of her best runs of play. The superstar for the Chicago Sky set a WNBA record on Sunday in a 92-85 win over the Los Angeles Sparks.
Angel Reese pulled down 16 rebounds in the win, marking her fourth consecutive game with at least 15 rebounds. That set a new WNBA record.
For the former LSU standout, the recent run of improved form has been a long time coming. Angel Reese didn’t start out the season great, by her own admission, but has since been on a tear.
“Yeah, I mean I always say to myself before every game, ‘God doesn’t give me any storm that I can’t handle,'” Reese said. “The first eight games I played terrible and I wasn’t coming up for my team. So I tried to find other ways to come up for my team. I had seven assists tonight, and that’s the thing that matters to me, getting the ball to my teammates because I know they can hit shots. And they did that tonight. So I’m super happy and we got the win for tonight.”
Angel Reese, who posted a rare triple-double in mid-June, has been on fire lately. She has averaged 17.3 points, 17.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game over her last four contests.
She’s been especially important to the Sky with center Kamilla Cardoso missing some action. Reese has had no trouble playing some heavy minutes at the five as a result.

“My biggest word is opportunity,” Angel Reese said. “When your opportunity comes you maximize it. And I think everybody comes off the bench and steps up and plays their role and executes. We missed (Kamilla Cardoso), we’re happy to have her back next game. But I think we came in and we played really, really hard and I’m very happy.”
Reese is now in her second year in the WNBA after a storied career at LSU. She started 34 games last season for the Sky, averaging 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
And while Angel Reese hasn’t quite matched her scoring or rebounding averages in her second season, she’s doing other things better. Reese is currently averaging 11.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
That’s a marked improvement in distribution, as well as a notable improvement in defensive playmaking. If Reese stays hot, she’ll continue pulling up her numbers, which are already thoroughly impressive.
